Gates of Hecate approaches the triple-faced goddess in a groovy, playful way. Traditionally, Hecate represents the three stages of a woman’s life: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. These paintings, however, embrace the many faces of emotion we experience throughout our lives without settling on one, but embodying all of them at once in a cosmic candy goo. This painting was created with gouache on canvas and is meant to feel like the two pillars of a gate, inviting the viewer into this psychedelic world of the self. You’ll notice that one painting depicts the main girl being comforted while the other is providing a shoulder to lean on, illustrating the different roles we play in our emotional lives.
